Summary

Our apprenticeship is designed to teach vital theory and real-world experiences that make up highly skilled engineers. We support you through the programme from start to finish, working with our senior engineers or completing assessments. Most of our apprentices move into engineering positions. You will repair a variety of forklift trucks.

What you'll do at work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Test-drive trucks and make adjustments Carry out safety checks Identify problems using tools, a laptop or hand-held computer Hands-on learning – working on a wide range of premium handling equipment Supportive technical environment Assigned mentor for each apprentice Brand-new toolbox and tooling provided Overalls, workwear and PPE supplied You will be servicing and repairing a variety of forklift trucks and warehouse equipment. You will undertake on the job learning, shadowing and working closely with your mentor In-house technical and product training

Training

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

What you'll learn

Course contents Apply health and safety procedures and safe systems of work in compliance with regulations and standards relevant to lift truck or powered access machines.Obtain and interpret lift truck and powered access machine technical data and repair instructions.Use tools, workshop equipment, diagnostic and measuring equipment when carrying out maintenance and repairs.Perform preventative maintenance activities on lift truck and powered access machines.Perform inspections on lift truck and powered access machines in compliance with Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) regulations.Remove and replace mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components.Apply diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to diagnose faults on lift truck or powered access machine systems.Carry out functional testing and quality checks on repaired lift truck or powered access machine components and systems.Carry out repairs and make required adjustments.Record or enter information - paper based or electronic. Training schedule

The Apprentice scheme is a three-year programme, which on successful completion they will be awarded a level 3 Lift Truck and Powered Access Engineering Technician Apprenticeship The Forklift Training Engineering Centre (F-TEC) is a dedicated training facility, offering an extensive range of forklift engineering programmes Training delivered on block releaseFunctional Skills in maths and English (if required) Great starting salary - Minimum £16,640 - Rising with age and service

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths, English, Science (grade 4-9)
