Education

Essential:

  • Completed Care Certificate or equivalent experience
  • Able to demonstrate literacy, numeracy and communication skills in English to carry out the duties of the role (known as functional skills), or GCSE or equivalent experience
  • Bedside Emergency Assessment Course for HCA's (BEACH) or willingness to undertake

Desirable:

  • Further qualifications and training relevant and required by the speciality of this post
  • Level 2 or 3 Health Care qualification/apprenticeship, or completion of Band 3 Excellence in Care Competencies for existing Band 2 substantive MSW

Experience

Essential:

  • Experience of working in Acute Hospital setting or care background, in a Band 2 MSW role or equivalent
  • Experience of delivering personal care to patients
  • Experience of using computers or willing to undertake training in local computer systems

Desirable:

  • Experience of taking clinical observations

Skills

Essential:

  • Evidence of using one's own initiative
  • Awareness of risks, identifying them and alerting appropriate personnel
  • Knowledge of basic IT systems or willing to undertake training
  • Knowledge of care and related procedures and relevant legislation

Desirable:

  • Awareness of changing agenda within NHS
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Previous experience of complex health needs
  • Competently perform a range if the core skills relevant to the area of speciality
