Education and Qualifications

Essential:

  • 4 GCSE's grade D or above including mathematics and English or equivalent e.g. level 2 literacy and numeracy qualifications

Desirable:

  • NVQ 2 in Customer Care or administration experience including recent face to face working with the general public

Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

  • Basic knowledge of the Receptionist role (ideally within a healthcare setting)
  • Knowledge of the importance of confidentiality and data protection issues in a healthcare environment

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with the general public
  • Experience of working with clinical teams
  • Experience of working with NHS IT systems
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Skills and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Good keyboard/IT skills, along with good literacy and numeracy, to have the ability to accurately input data
  • Good organisational/time management skills with the ability to demonstrate initiative when balancing work demands
  • Ability to work in a pressurised working environment with frequent interruptions, which often involves multitasking
  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with patients, relatives and other staff groups
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Accurate document presentation and attention to detail
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service including weekends/Bank Holidays as required, covering for annual leave and sickness and adapt to different working practices/areas of work
